Melissa Anderson is an attorney in the Houston office of Schouest, Bamdas, Soshea & BenMaier P.L.L.C. Her practice is focused on matters involving Admiralty and Maritime law, including claims arising under the General Maritime law, the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act, the Jones Act and the Defense Base Act.
Melissa received her J.D. from Pepperdine University School of Law, where she also obtained a certification in Dispute Resolution from Pepperdine’s #1 ranked Strauss Institute for Dispute Resolution. At Pepperdine, Melissa served as the Lead Articles Editor of the Dispute Resolution Law Journal. She also graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in History Education from Abilene Christian University, and is certified to teach high-school level History in the state of Texas.
While in California, Melissa worked for the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office in the Employment Litigation Division, where she defended the city in numerous labor and employment lawsuits under California’s Fair Employment and Housing Act.
Melissa’s prior experience includes judicial clerkships for Chief District Judge Thomas A. Varlan of the Eastern District of Tennessee, and Magistrate Judge Frances Stacy of the Southern District of Texas, where she assisted in legal briefing and drafting of opinions both in commercial litigation and social security administrative law.
As a native Houstonian, Melissa is an avid lover of Houston sports. In her spare time, she loves exploring local restaurants, golfing and indoor cycling.
